At 8:14 on the snowy morning of Friday, January 19th, the Regional Fire Department, consisting of Kennett Fire Company, Longwood Fire Company, and Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company, along with mutual aid, was dispatched for a fire in the 400 block of Mill Road in Kennett Township. The reporting party stated that shelving next to a wood stove was on fire.
Kennett's Deputy 24 arrived and reported heavy smoke from the rear of the building. Less than one minute later, Engine 24 arrived and reported fire showing through the roof. The crew laid a supply line from the hydrant to the scene and used handlines and the engine-mounted deck gun to put water on the fire.
Utility 24-1 and Utility 24-2 were on scene and assisted with shuttling manpower and transporting hose. The Red Cross responded to assist one individual, and one Paramedic suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the incident.
Fire Police from Kennett Fire Company, Longwood Fire Company, and Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company detoured traffic around the scene. The last units cleared the scene shortly before 3:00pm.
We thank the Kennett Square Wawa for donating breakfast sandwiches, coffee, and hot chocolate for the firefighters working at the scene. |
