At 9:23pm on Tuesday, December 12th, the Regional Fire Department, consisting of Kennett Fire Company, Longwood Fire Company, and Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company, along with mutual aid, was dispatched for an apartment building fire in the 100 block of S. Union Street in Kennett Square Borough. Kennett's Assistant Chief, Tower 24, and Fire Police responded to the scene.
Tower 24 arrived as the First Due Special. The crew completed a primary search of the building and found smoke in one of the apartments. Firefighters pulled up the floor and traced the fire to multiple apartments. Crews knocked the fire and completed a second search, during which no additional fire was found. Due to the damage and utilities to the building being turned off, the Red Cross was contacted to assist 55 residents with relocation and temporary housing.
Fire Police from Kennett Fire Company, Longwood Fire Company, and Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company detoured traffic around the scene.
Engine 52 from West Chester was relocated to cover the region. Engine 52 and Ladder 22 handled one additional incident during the standby.
The Kennett Area Community Service has been collecting donations for the affected residents. To see how you can help, visit https://kacsimpact.org/2023/12/13/spruce-apartments-fire-in-kennett-square-most-needed-items/ |
